Weather even too cold for construction

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Many construction workers have been braving the cold, but because the temperature has been so frigid, Milestone Contractors halted its construction projects Monday. "We thought it would be in our best interest to keep our workers to keep them at home," explained Mark Andrews of Milestone Contractors. "The temperatures are just too dangerous for the guys. It is alright for the guys that are sitting in the equipment and it is still pretty cold for them unless they have an enclosed cab. The guys that have to work on the ground, that is not safe for them to be out in these temperatures, especially with the wind chills the way they are." Andrews said Milesto...
Cover up to avoid sticking in the cold

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - If you spend any time outside, be sure to bundle up. Many of us are familiar with the scene in the Christmas Story where Flick is triple-dog-dared to stick his tongue on a freezing flag pole. As Flick found out, if you don't cover up your body parts in the cold, you could be the one stuck to something. As temperatures sink make sure you think or uncovered body parts could stick. "We have children who do the double dog dare and put their tongues on a wet cold pole," said Dr. Jill Grant an emergency room phyiscan at Home Hospital. Turns out it's fairly common to become frozen to objects. Fingers often freeze to something they touch in frigid...

Rhodes said the city council authorized over $5 million in loans from the utility last year. It was to be re-paid by December 31, 2009. The city now has until March 2010 to repay the loans. "It's the most efficient use of our funds, it will save the...
