Lane Kiffin brings top staff with him to USC

Ed Orgeron, who served as Tennessee's assistant head coach this season and is a former USC assistant, will return to Los Angeles with Kiffin. Orgeron is one of the nation's finest recruiters and the duo helped to save the Vols' 2009 recruiting class, which ended up as a top 10 class. Kiffin will also be able to sell two of the very best coordinators in the country. His father Monte Kiffin is following him as well and reports late Tuesday night indicate that UCLA offensive coordinator Norm Chow could be Kiffin's offensive coordinator. It was the combination of Kiffin and Orgeron that sold many recruits on the Vols. Now USC will be able to sell those two, plus the innovative offenses of...
Kiffin brings USC great staff, recruiting skill

Kiffin, 34, will bring his father and defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin, as well as assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron with him to USC. The elder Kiffin is one of the country's mostly highly regarded defensive minds. Orgeron is considered one of the nation's best recruiters. He was the Trojans recruiting coordinator from 2001 to 2004, when USC multiple times landed the nation's No. 1 class. A source told the Pac-10 blog that USC also is expected to pursue Norm Chow as offensive coordinator. Chow is presently the offensive coordinator at UCLA, but he was Carroll's coordinator when the Trojans won consecutive national titles in 2003 and 2004.

A Mutually Beneficial Breakup?

The national championships were built on the backs of assistant coaches like Ed Orgeron and Norm Chow. When those assistants left, they were replaced by assistants who, while hard-workers and good recruiters, would not be willing to disagree with Pete Carroll.  Chow and Orgeron had established college coaching resumes before Pete Carroll even interviewed with Mike Garrett. Guys like Steve Sarkisian, Lane Kiffin, and Ken Norton Jr. owe theirs to Carroll. Which of those guys was going to tell Pete Carroll he was wrong on something? Maybe upset losses to Stanford, UCLA, and Oregon State do not happen if he was not surrounded by "yes men." This is not to denigrate Pete C...

Belichick happy for his buddy
Houston Nutt (who's moved from Arkansas to Ole Miss), Phil Fulmer (Tennessee-ex), and Ed Orgeron (now a Tennessee assistant, the Ole Miss coach in the movie), a lot of guys were donning colors they no longer wear. And that brought us to another question ... Did Belichick watch his ol' pal Nick win the national title last night?"I saw very little of it, they were ahead 24-3 or something," Belichick said. "I havent really seen much of it. But its a great win for Nick, and the Alabama program. You all know what I think of him, he does a tremendous job. Hes a great coach, as good as anyone Ive ever worked with. I learned an awful lot from him, and Im happy for...
