When Trouble Erupts, Courage Rises Up
Pierre Garcon is a man of valor. His courage will be displayed this weekend when the Colts-Ravens game is played. Who will I cheer? Why will I cheer? After listening to the repetitive accounts of the earthquake in Haiti, I was saddened by the pictures of the devastation and confusion. I will cheer for the people of Haiti and for the extended family of Pierre Garcon and of others whose families are affected by the recent 7.0 earthquake. Access to the island has been challenged. Baseball pledges $1 million to help Haiti
Indianapolis Colts receiver Pierre Garcon says he finally contacted family members displaced by the quake. Garcon said his mother received a call from a relative Wednesday night. "I ... got some good information," he said. "We're still looking for the rest of them." -- Oklahoma State safety Lucien Antoine has an uncle with six children in Port-au-Prince, and all are missing. Other members of his family in Cap-Haitien, several hours away, survived. -- Philadelphia 76ers center Samuel Dalembert, who said Wednesday he had heard from his father in Haiti but still not been in contact with other family members, announced he is making a $100,000 donation to the recovery efforts.

TIM ETHRIDGE COLUMN» Evansville Courier & Press
With Indy up 17-3 in the third quarter, Ravens safety Ed Reed stepped in front of Pierre Garcon for an interception and began weaving his way down the sideline. Garcon caught up from behind, knocked the ball loose, and it bounced directly to tight end Dallas Clark. "He took my touchdown away, so I had to go and get the ball back," said Garcon. Reed got another interception on the continued drive, returning the ball inside the 10, but cornerback Corey Ivey was called for interference. So despite two apparent turnovers, both returned deep into their territory, the Colts used up almost eight minutes of game clock and wound up with a field goal that stretched their lead to 17 points.
