Splitting, cutting, and trimming your video clips

from the official website.

Within Movavi Video Editor, video and audio clips can be broken down into smaller parts using the cutting tool represented by a scissors icon on the toolbar. This feature allows to isolate specific segments for editing or removal. To eliminate an unwanted segment, simply click the trash can icon adjacent to the scissors button.

To cut a clip, locate the desired section of a clip and move the marker from its initial position to the desired cutting point (this could be a particular event, action, or moment in time that you wish to isolate from the rest of the footage). Once this is done, click on the Cut button located on the toolbar.

How to trim clips

To efficiently edit videos, trimming clips is an essential feature. Unlike cutting out large sections of a video or audio file, trimming involves removing specific parts from the beginning or end of a clip without affecting the rest of the content. In Movavi Video Editor, this process can be performed using the following steps:
Step 1. Locate the edge of the desired section within the clip by placing your mouse pointer over it.
Step 2. Click and hold on to the edge of the selected section while dragging it towards the center of the clip.
Step 3. Release your mouse button when the desired length is reached. The trimmed section will now be removed from the original clip, leaving only the remaining parts intact.

How to use precise navigation

To enhance your video editing experience, we recommend experimenting with various techniques for precise navigation within Movavi Video Editor. Here are some approaches to navigate through your footage with greater accuracy:
- Firstly, you can utilize the Skip Forward by 0.5 Seconds or Skip Backward by 0.5 Seconds commands in the Playback menu to jump half a second forward or backward in time.
- Secondly, you can employ the Previous Frame and Next Frame buttons for more detailed frame-by-frame navigation. These buttons allow you to move forward or backward through each individual frame of the video, providing a high level of precision when making adjustments or analyzing specific details within the footage.
- Finally, by using the Previous Clip and Next Clip commands, you can easily switch between different clips within the player window, allowing you to review and compare various segments of your video content with ease. This feature is particularly useful when working on multi-clip projects or when needing to navigate through multiple takes or versions of a single clip.
