Retired NBA star John Salley, a member of the Los Angeles Lakers 1999-2000 championship team, started on a vegetarian diet in 1991. He became more serious about it four years ago, he said, and has been a vegan for about 18 months. The San Fernando Valley resident, who is offering advice on the Vegan Kickstart Web site and has recorded telephone messages of support for those who register for the program, said the most difficult part for him was letting go of eggs.
