Nervous bride-to-be lets fear block her happiness (13)
Any advice for a soon-to-be bride? I am getting married really soon, and instead of being happy, I find myself continually nervous. I've analyzed and analyzed, and I know I am making the right choice in marrying this person. However, I think the pit in my stomach is nerves. Nerves over actually completely letting myself love someone, the threat of losing myself if I do let myself love, the fear of losing my established identity because I got married, and the fear of heartbreak due to unexpected death or illness or some other catastrophic circumstance. How can I let these fears go? Anxious bride All these fears you list are making you really unhappy.
Other World Computing Recognized by EPA Green Power Partnership Program (13)
The EPA Green Power Partnership program is a voluntary program that provides recognition to organizations demonstrating environmental leadership by using clean renewable power, either by purchasing green credits or -- as OWC does -- by producing their own power. In October 2009, OWC became the first US technology company of its kind to power 100 percent of its operations using on-site wind power, generated using its Vestas V39-500kW wind turbine. The turbine is projected to generate an estimated 1,250,000 kWh per year, nearly double the current energy requirements of all OWC operations, including its Internet operations datacenter for OWC.net and FasterMac.net. Excess energy produce...
Earthquake in Haiti believed to leave at least 2 Americans trapped in wreckage (12)
of them a young aid worker related to a retired senior U.S. naval officer, are believed to be among those trapped in wreckage after Haiti's earthquake. The executive director of Haitian Ministries for the Diocese of Norwich, Conn., Emily Smack, says she believes two of the organization's staff are trapped in their mission house. The house partially collapsed during the earthquake Tuesday. Smack identified the staffers as the mission's acting director, Jillian Thorp, and a management consultant, Charles Dietsch, who has been working with the ministry. Thorp is the daughter-in-law of retired Rear Adm. Frank Thorp, who had been the...
Purdue's Hummel Shines, but Ohio State's Evan Turner Fuels Upset (12)
As Robbie Hummel drained his record-setting eighth three-pointer in front of the Ohio State bench with 1:35 left in the first half, all coach Thad Matta could do was shake his head. Late in the second half, Evan Turner gave him a reason to smile again. Turner paced the Buckeyes with a career-high 32 points, 23 coming in the second half, as Ohio State erased a double-digit deficit, and 35 points from Robbie Hummel, to upset No. 6 Purdue 70-66 in Mackey Arena. In a game that the Buckeyes desperately needed to win in order to avoid a 1-4 start in conference play, Turner put the team on his injured back to lead a furious comeback in the final minutes of the game.
Daily Dime (12)
A waterline broke in the sprinkler system in a non-public area of Fedex Forum and the building was evacuated on a precautionary basis. The game was delayed 17 minutes as fans filed out into the cold January air where they patiently waited to return and cheer on their .500 Grizzlies. And by that I mean most of them got in their cars and drove away. Meanwhile, Grizzlies' and Clippers' players both hung out on the Clippers buses to try and keep warm. For a moment imagine the absurdity of two opposing teams hanging out together in a visitor's bus, just chillin'. When the game resumed the Clippers must have gotten the window seat next to the cold air. After the stoppage, the Gri...
Sol Campbell close to Arsenal return after playing for reserves (11)
Campbell has since trained at Arsenal's London Colney headquarters in a bid to maintain his fitness but he is now to get his ticket back to the top flight. "It felt great to be out there tonight," said Campbell, who came through unscathed. "Forty-five minutes was probably enough for me after four months out."Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, who was among the 300 or so hardy souls at Upton Park, has problems in central defence, where he has lost faith in Philippe Senderos, while Johan Djourou has a long-term knee injury. Alex Song, the midfielder who can deputise in the position if necessary, is at the Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon and, most alarmingly, there are fitness conc...
What Not to Wear (11)
I, however, have discovered things about yoga and swimming that may make the road ahead a little clearer for someone who may otherwise feel too overwhelmed to press on. The hidden side of yoga surprised me the most. Everything I knew about yoga was based on pictures of twig-shaped women in over-priced, eco-friendly, bamboo-weave cropped tights, touching their toes to the backs their heads while balancing on the ball of the other foot, hands folded into prayer position. If the picture was West Coast-oriented, women named Windswept, Halo or Nevada stood in a nearby rolling green field, next to a clear blue river, drinking Chai tea. Hence the genesis of my resistance and ske...
Who Will Replace Lane Kiffin? . Buster Sports (11)
Troy Calhoun, Air Force -- Calhoun's record is pretty darn impressive, considering he's only been at Air Force for three years and has yet to finish lower than fourth in the Mountain West, amassing a 25-14 record overall, with 16-8 in conference. Plus, as my man Clay Travis wrote in his last book, if Kiffin hadn't been summoned to Knoxville, Calhoun probably would have been hired. Verdict: Strong Candidate 8. Jon Gruden, ESPN -- You can't have a coaching search these days without mentioning Gruden, arguably the best combo of talent/name value/unemployement out there right now -- if UTK can pull off getting Gruden it would an absolutely monster hire and surely put Mike H...

Larry Winter's blog (10)

Agriculture producers provide many ecosystem services which have historically been viewed as free benefits to society - clean water and air, wildlife habitat, carbon storage, and scenic landscapes. Lacking a formal structure to market these services, farmers, ranchers and forest landowners are not generally compensated for providing these critical public benefits. I have an idea. Why don't we create a formal structure to market volunteer services that are provided by millions of individuals in this country everyday. Those that aren't "generally compensated for providing these critical public benefits". Volunteer firefighters for example. Why shouldn't their efforts be co...
