Auburn wraps up likely Top-5 class

Defensive end Corey Lemonier and wide receiver Trovon Reed announced their decisions to sign with the Tigers on Wednesday. Lemonier was rated the nation's No. 3 weakside defensive end prospect by Rivals.com and picked Auburn over Florida State. Reed is a 5-star recruit according to Scout.com, which named him the seventh-best receiver recruit. His decision came down to Auburn and LSU. Five Auburn signees - including quarterback Cameron Newton - have already enrolled and count toward last year's signing class. The Tigers' class was loaded with linemen and linebackers. Offensive tackle Shon Coleman and defensive tackle Jeffery Whitaker were among the other top signees.
Gators hold on to claim recruiting crown

No player personifies the versatility of this class better than five-star wide receiver Trovon Reed (6-0, 180) of Thibodaux, La. Reed filled a need at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl by volunteering to play corner during the week, a position he had very limited experience. By all accounts, he was the best corner in attendance. Scout's No. 2 running back Michael Dyer (5-10, 195, 4.49) of Little Rock, Ark. is another player who should step in and see playing time right away. Auburn's front seven on defense also features several players who could be on the field as freshmen including four-star defensive tackle Jeffrey Whitaker (6-4/295) and any one of five linebacker commits in...

Mission accomplished

The one player from Louisiana that LSU didn’t get was Trovon Reed, a quarterback from Thibodaux, who is going to Auburn. The highly touted Reed might not play quarterback in college, but Zach Lee, from McKinney, Texas, will for LSU. “I think we probably signed the best passer here since Matt Flynn,” Miles said of the former LSU QB who led his Tigers to the 2007 BCS championship. Miles said Lee, who hits 90 mph as a pitcher in baseball, has an arm that can be compared to former Tiger JaMarcus Russell, the No. 1 pick of the 2007 NFL Draft.“I think this was a very good day for our football team,” Miles said. “We improved our football team. This is a very talented cla...

National Signing Day 2010 live blog, Seantrel Henderson updates
Athlete Trovon Reed had nothing to do with whether Reed would sign with LSU. Apparently, Reed had to drive to Mississippi to find a fax machine to send his documents to The Loveliest Village on the Plains. At least that was the rumor. It turns out a writer for a Scout.com site posted it as his Facebook status update, and the quip took on a life of its own. Still, it begs a question: Why, in 2010, are such important documents being trusted to fax machines? We've come a long way since the heyday of the fax machine, when Vanilla Ice rolled down A1A and Wayne and Garth weren't worthy. We live in an age in which images and documents can be shuttled across the globe in less than...
