Rental market boosts new construction (14)
At least this Tuesday at Denny's. 'Super Tuesday' is back at the International restaurant franchise and will see free Grand Slam breakfasts passed out to everyone who walks in the doors of a Denny's Restaurant on Tuesday, February 9. President and CEO of Denny's Canada, Bobby Naicker, says this is the second year for the free breakfast promotion. “It started last year based on a suggestion from one of our franchisees who suggested we give away free breakfasts to everyone in America,” says Naicker. He says Denny's Kelowna restaurants gave away more than 500 free Grand Slam breakfasts last year and this year they are expected to hit the 1,000 mark.
Why Costa Rica scores well on the happiness index (12)
Costa Ricans have a high life expectancy - 78.5 years - and a low ecological footprint, although the NEF says it still needs to do better. Some analysts question the validity of such international surveys, in part because they rely on self-reported happiness. And some non-governmental organisations, like COHA in Washington, question Costa Rica's green credentials when the government recently allowed a Canadian company to start open cast mining for gold. But greenness does seem to permeate both public policy and the private lives of Costa Ricans. The country pioneered a carbon tax in 1997 which is used in part to pay landowners and indigenous communities about $65 (£...
Why no 'green dot' for vegetarian food? (12)
I AM a vegetarian from India and always have to read through the label on an item or ask food vendors in detail about the food they serve in order to ensure that what I want to eat is truly vegetarian."I do not eat eggs, fish, chicken, et cetera... Uncle/auntie do you have something for me to eat?" Is my common refrain to bakeries and hawkers in Singapore.I see the "halal" certification on a lot of food items. This makes me wonder if there is any reason why the "green dot" (in a square) 100 per cent vegetarian marking used for most Indian food stuffs should not be adopted here.Having this certification will also help promote vegetarianism in Singapore.

"Well its not the Alfredo sauce you might be thinking but it's the basics you know the Mediterranean diet. We're looking at pasta. If you can choose a whole grain version that's great because one study recently showed that men who choose more whole grains are nineteen percent more likely to reduce their blood pressure than those that didn't, so look for whole grain pasta if you can," said Karen. "And we can't forget about the tomatoes?" asked Caitlin. "And tomatoes are another great part of it. Full of lycopene and potassium of course so and you know when you drizzle with a little bit of olive oil it helps the absorption of that healthy lycopene into your sy...

Post Office Closings Upset Rural Communities (10)

At issue in the dispute is the distinction between closing a post office and suspending service. Under federal law, closings require 60 days' notice, opportunities for public comment, an accounting of the reasons for the decision and an opportunity for residents to appeal. Suspensions, which are supposed to be used during natural disasters, health or safety hazards or unanticipated lease problems, do not carry the same requirements. Under suspensions, "the office is not closed, but as far as customers are concerned it's not open," said Norm Scherstrom, a Postal Regulatory Commission spokesman. Last fall, the commission said the evidence strongly suggests the Pos...
